Polypropylene (PP)

Polypropylene, or PolyPro as it is frequently called, is a simple hydrocarbon polymer thermoplastic which is used in virtually all plastics end-use markets and in many forms.  Forms include beads, rods, pipe, rods, sheets, mouldings, fibres, tapes, foams and films.  It is the most widely used type of plastic today.

Polypro is a semi-rigid thermoplastic which can be translucent and tough yet very formable.  It lends itself very well to injection moulding due to its ability to flow under heat.  It exhibits good chemical, fatigue and heat resistance with it melting above 160°C.

Polypropylene does not exhibit good resistance to sunlight due to UV light and requires additives if exposure is expected.  PP does not lend itself well to machining applications where much material is removed, although trimming and cutting tend to not create problems.  Gluing (see Adhesives) and Welding with PolyPro requires special preparation and techniques such as those in which our technicians at Plas-Tech are well-versed.

Polypropylene is used at Plas-Tech Fabrications in processing for virtually any thermoplastic manufacturing (where the material flows after being heated), including:

Common uses for Polypropylene include toys, bottles, carpets, sports equipment, automotive components, packaging, medical devices, ropes, bank-notes and house-hold goods.
